About the Instructor

My name is Holly and I have been around canoes for as long as I can remember. My family would take them on camping trips and fishing on a semi-regular basis. When I was in high school my experience was brought to a new level when a friend introduced me and my brother to canoe racing.
I completed my first Texas Water Safari in 2002. I have been hooked to racing and any type of canoe/kayak activities since! I finished 8 and have broke 4 women’s records for the Texas Water Safari. I have also placed 1st in a number of races across Texas, including the Texas State Championships and the Colorado River 100. In 2006 a Red Dean Productions followed my team in the Texas Water Safari and made a video named “Defying the River” .
I started teaching canoeing & kayaking in 2001. Currently I am teaching canoe classes at Texas State University and am Certified with the USCA as an instructor. Most of my paddling style is geared towards marathon flat water racing. It is my desire to introduce more people to the sport of canoeing while help people acquire and perfect their canoeing/kayaking skills.
